Blair Academy, an independent coeducational boarding and day school, had three key initiatives in mind when considering a $50 million campaign: strengthen the student experience with a new activity and athletics center; increase endowment for faculty and scholarship support; and build its annual fund.
Blair Academy turned to Grenzebach Glier and Associates for counsel on campaign feasibility, goal setting, prospective donor identification, and to serve as a strategic partner throughout the campaign.
Ever Always: The Campaign for Blair Academy
GG+A worked closely with Blair’s development team to examine the School’s unique qualities and campaign readiness. Together, Blair and GG+A analyzed staffing and organization priorities, outlined the initiatives that would serve as the core of the fundraising campaign, developed a campaign operating plan, and focused attention on major gift strategies and the annual giving program. An analysis Blair’s constituents, using GG+A’s DonorScape®, enabled staff to prioritize work with prospective donors and develop a clear picture of their propensity and ability to support the campaign.
Increasing alumni participation was a key goal for Blair’s campaign; more than 55% of Blair’s alumni made gifts during the campaign. Since the campaign’s conclusion, the School continues to enjoy a robust alumni participation rate, particularly among its youngest graduates.
Blair Academy’s campaign closed at more than $52 million. New outdoor and indoor facilities on the Blair campus, continued growth of the endowment, and a doubling of annual giving were among the campaign’s greatest achievements. With this solid foundation in place, Blair Academy was positioned and ready to sustain and expand its philanthropic success in support of the School’s mission and goals.
