David C. Johnson joined GG+A in 2008 with more than 30 years of experience in public affairs and fundraising for both public and private institutions. Over the course of his professional career, he has played a senior role in six major fundraising campaigns that collectively secured more than $3.6 billion in philanthropic revenue.
Before coming to GG+A, Dave served for three years as vice president for advancement at the University of Richmond, where he was responsible for all phases of the University’s $200 million Transforming Bright Minds campaign, which exceeded its goal by $12 million and concluded a year early. As director of development at Harvard Law School, Dave managed staff and programs dedicated to secure annual, capital, endowment and deferred gifts for the School’s $400 million Setting the Standard Campaign. While serving as director of university development operations at Harvard University, Dave was one of several senior University staff responsible for the success of Harvard’s recent $2.6 billion campaign. He supervised all development services, as well as several fundraising programs.
Dave’s extensive career in higher education development and administration also includes senior roles at Lafayette College, The Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia, Cornell University, and Ohio Wesleyan University. In addition to his work with these institutions, Dave served as President and COO of Cartermill Inc., a Baltimore-based information services firm that developed and marketed the BEST research databases.  
Dave earned a bachelor’s degree in English and economics from DePauw University, holds a certificate in business management from The Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at The University of Virginia, and completed graduate-level coursework at Cornell University.
