Internationally recognized as a leader in philanthropic consulting, John Glier has provided strategic counsel to hundreds of higher education, healthcare, and major cultural institutions in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, and Australia.

A skilled innovator who works with clients in all facets of philanthropic management, John joined the firm in 1981. He is deeply committed to his clients’ success and works with them to build sustainable development programs that advance long-term growth. He brings clients deep experience in evaluating development programs, conducting planning studies for comprehensive campaigns, and leading training for development and volunteer professionals.

Recent Accomplishments

John Glier has worked closely with many chief executives, deans, and Board leaders in early strategic planning, as well as in the day-to-day implementation of campaign tasks. His work in Board development is particularly well known, along with his work in building major gift and principal gift programs. He has provided counsel to numerous campaigns with some of the largest fundraising goals in higher education.

Career Snapshot

Throughout his more than 30 years providing counsel, John has advised on such wide ranging topics as the role of volunteers and academic and medical leaders in the fundraising process; the use of information technologies in fundraising; constituency development; prospect identification and management; and the innovative use of analytics to drive evidence-based strategies.

A true leader in the philanthropic community, he served for many years on the Board of the American Association of Fundraising Counsel, now called the Giving Institute, which publishes “Giving USA,” the most authoritative source on philanthropic activity in America today.

A Fulbright fellow, John graduated from Providence College and attended the Université de Fribourg in Switzerland and the University of Chicago. He holds degrees in English and comparative literature.
