Biography

Cindy Frederick, Vice President, brings 35 years of extensive expertise in alumni and parent engagement, advancement function integration, volunteer management, campus partnerships, faculty and student involvement, staff development, and more.

As the Senior Associate Vice President for University Advancement at the University of Virginia, Cindy is responsible for developing innovative engagement and annual giving strategies for over 300,000 alumni, parents, and friends in collaboration with schools, foundations, and related organizations. She is a member of UVA’s Senior Leadership Team, which is responsible for two capital campaigns totaling $8 billion. She additionally manages a $4 million budget, 36 staff members, 60 student employees, and 700 volunteers. Cindy integrated annual giving with central alumni relations, grew regional engagement through volunteer leadership, and pivoted to virtual events to produce over 750 digital events for record registrations during the pandemic.

Prior to this role, Cindy served as the President and Executive Director of Madison House, UVA’s independent nonprofit student volunteer center. She implemented strategic plans to manage volunteers, develop leaders, build community partnerships, and promote a lifelong commitment to service in partnership with a 21-member governing Board of Directors. Cindy also established a new financial model to increase revenue by creating their first alumni affinity program and alumni fundraising strategy.

Cindy’s other roles in Advancement Services include Associate Director for Virginians Aligned Against Sexual Assault and Managing Director of the children’s touring company for The Sofia, Home of B Street Theatre.

Cindy received her Bachelor of Social Work from Luther College, Master’s in Education from California State University – Sacramento, and Certificate in Fundraising Management from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. An active volunteer with CASE, she has served as a district board member, chair of the Summer Institute for Alumni Relations, and received a CASE Crystal Apple Award.
