Thomas Hiles, Senior Vice President, offers 35 years of experience working with higher education institutions of varying sizes, missions, and communities. Most recently, he was the Vice Chancellor for Advancement at the University of Missouri (MU), where he led fundraising and alumni programs. His concentration is in the areas of campaign planning and direction, corporate and foundations relations, and major gifts and annual giving programs. He has been a key leader in ambitious campaigns exceeding $1.4 billion, has overseen a team of nearly 200, and managed a $19 million budget. Hiles’ strength is in building endowments, increasing cash donations, and instituting metrics for accountability and productivity. He also has a strong track record of working with athletic departments to raise funds for scholarships and major capital renovations, which has proven vital for MU as a member of the SEC.
Prior to MU, Hiles held Advancement leadership positions at Bowling Green State University, Western Kentucky University and the WKU Foundation, Rice University, the University of Maryland, and DePaul University. During his time with MU and WKU Foundation, Hiles led two programs receiving CASE’s prestigious Most Improved Program award designated for universities and colleges demonstrating significant program growth. Hiles began his career teaching high school history and continues to mentor young people as part of his overall belief in education.
Hiles earned his Bachelor of Arts from Graceland University and his Master of Arts from DePaul University.
