As private support becomes an increasingly important part of healthcare funding, renewing and identifying sources of philanthropy has taken on a critical role in development operations nationwide. Patients and their families are a natural fit for fundraising opportunities for many reasons, not least of which is that this large group has perhaps the greatest understanding of the healthcare organization’s success in mission-delivery. This paper discusses GG+A’s history of working with healthcare organizations to develop successful fundraising programs, as well as the author’s own experience in working with more than 40 hospitals on issues related specifically to patient fundraising.
